Gavin Brown is Professor of Machine Learning and Director of Research in the Department of Computer Science, University of Manchester, UK.  He leads a team working on fundamental and applied statistical Machine Learning methodologies, in numerous areas including ensemble learning, deep learning, and feature selection.  His work and that of his students have received several prizes over the years, including the British Computer Society Distinguished Dissertation award, the European Conference on Machine Learning Best Paper, and the ACM Computing Notable Paper award.  The team has recently focused on issues of causality and reproducibility in data science, with particular focus guided by pharmaceutical industry collaborators.
